 1) Q How does a student enroll in South Houston High School?

A

To enroll a child in school, our district requires that you have the following information in hand to present to school personnel:

A birth certificate or certified copy of a birth certificate (mandatory if the child has never been enrolled in a Texas public school before); and,

A record of immunizations (demonstrating that shots are up-to-date according to Texas standards); and,

A social security cards or document and,

School records (i.e. a Withdrawal Sheet or a final report card that, for students entering a new grade level, shows whether not the student is eligible to be promoted), along with the address and phone number of the previous school; and,

A deed, a mortgage, a mortgage payment book, or an apartment lease, and a current utility bill (present or previous month) to establish residence within the school district. If you are living with another family and using their address as your residence, you and the owner or leaseholder must sign a legal Affidavit of Residence at the school. The Affidavit is a formal, sworn statement made by both parties, notarized at school, in the presence of school personnel , before residency status can be accepted.

If you are not the parent listed on the birth certificate, you cannot register the child in school without an Enrollment Certificate. Certificates are issued only by campus personnel. Please provide whatever court documents, placement papers, CPS orders or agreements, or other legal documentation that establishes your guardianship at the time of registration to complete this process.

WARNING

If a campus principal suspects that false or misleading information was provided in order to register a child/children, or that a family has moved from the residence first reported to school personnel without notifying the school. the principal may request a residency check. If the child or family is suspected of living within Pasadena ISD, but not in the correct school zone, the principal may request that an attendance office (truant officer) investigate. If the child or family is suspected of living outside the boundaries of the Pasadena ISD , the principal may request that the district residence investigator investigate. If an investigation determines that a child is not entitled to membership in the Pasadena ISD because of residence, the student will be immediately withdrawn and the parent or guardian may be billed at a rate of $28 dollars for every day the child/children was in illegal attendance. Criminal charges may also be filed as provided by Section 37.10 of the Texas Penal Code.
