What is it: The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) program are annual assessments of student proficiency.

SAT

What is it: The SAT is a college entrance exam, it is a timed examination and is only given on certain dates (listed below). If you already know the college that you want to attend be sure that the SAT is accepted by them. Please visit the College Room about the required fee, the registration deadlines for the test, and any other questions you may have about the SAT.  If you are currently listed as eligible for Free/Reduced lunch program, visit the College Room to obtain a fee waiver for testing.  Students are allowed 2 fee waivers total for the SAT.  Practice for free using www.khanacademy.org.

PSAT

What is it: The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a program co-sponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation. It's a standardized test that provides a first look at the SAT format and allows students time to get feedback and prepare before the SAT.  It provides students real-time college readiness information. It also gives students a chance to enter the National Merit Scholarship program. Realizing the importance of early college awareness, PISD currently gives the PSAT for free to all students in grades 9-11. There is no required registration.  The National Merit Qualifying Scholarship competition only applies to students taking the PSAT in their 11th grade year.

ACT

What is it: The ACT is a college entrance exam, it is a timed examination and is only given on certain dates (listed below). If you already know the college that you want to attend be sure that the ACT is accepted by them. Stop by the College Room for information about the required fee, the registration deadlines for the test, and any other questions you may have about the ACT.  If you are currently listed as eligible for Free/Reduced lunch program, visit the College Room to obtain a fee waiver for testing.  Students are allowed 2 fee waivers total for the ACT.  ACT does not honor a fee waiver past the regular registration deadline.

What is it: Test Geek offers free online SAT test preparation resources and premium tutoring. The website contains video tutorials and tips intended to raise SAT scores and make college applicants more competitive.
